Dr. Serena Liu’s journey from the prairies of Saskatoon to the bustling dental community of Bow Trail Dental in Calgary is a testament to her dedication to both her profession and personal passions. Born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Dr. Liu developed an early interest in science and philosophy. This fascination led her to pursue a BSc. in Anatomy and Cell Biology and a minor in Philosophy at the University of Saskatchewan, where she graduated with distinction. From a young age, Dr. Liu always enjoyed going to the dentist and was eager to combine her scientific knowledge with a desire to serve her community. Dr. Liu continued her education at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Dentistry, earning both a BSc. in Dentistry and a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. During her studies, Dr. Liu’s commitment to public health and community service shone through in community clinics. Her research project focused on developing innovative dental health strategies tailored for families in Northern Saskatchewan communities– where access to oral care can be challenging. This experience underscored her belief in personalized care and the importance of empowering patients through education and preventive measures.
Upon completing her dental training, Dr. Liu was drawn to Calgary– where she found a perfect fit for her patient-centred approach to dentistry at Bow Trail Dental. Her goal remains steadfast: to instill confidence in her patients by comprehensively addressing their dental and oral health needs. Fluent in both English and Cantonese Chinese, Dr. Liu ensures that language is never a barrier to quality care for her patients. Dr. Liu enjoys all aspects of dentistry but has particular interests in pediatrics, oral surgery and Invisalign cases.
Beyond dentistry, Dr. Liu has a passion for photography as a film and digital photographer, specializing in weddings, portraits, and fashion. Dr. Liu’s active lifestyle mirrors her vibrant personality. She’s an enthusiastic soccer player, participating in multiple leagues across Calgary, and an avid sport rock climber. Dr. Liu cherishes her time with loved ones, whether it’s bonding over board games or cooking meals together. In every aspect of her life, Dr. Liu embodies a dedication to excellence, whether through her dental practice, her artistic pursuits, or her active engagement in sports and community.
