Dental implants have rapidly become the preferred restorative option for the replacement of missing teeth. They offer a combination of structural support for the jaw and superior strength for the placement of crowns and dentures. At Bow Trail Dental Centre, our doctors place and restore dental implants for patients who are missing one or more teeth, allowing them to eat, speak, and smile with complete comfort and confidence once again.
Benefits of Dental Implants
When a patient is missing one or more teeth, the bone in the jaw gradually begins to deteriorate over time in the absence of roots to stimulate it. Other teeth may begin to shift, become loose, and even fall out as well. Other issues associated with missing teeth include a diminished sense of self-confidence and the inability to chew effectively, thereby negatively impacting your nutrition and health overall. Dental implants serve as a lasting solution to these issues, restoring the health of your jaw and maintaining the strength of your dentition.
Will Dental Implants Work for Me?
We offer complimentary consultations to patients considering restorative dentistry services, including dental implants. We will thoroughly assess all aspects of your dental health, ensuring that the bone density within the jaw is sufficient to support implants. Periodontal health will also be evaluated, as the state of your gums affects dental implant candidacy. If necessary, we can perform bone grafting or soft tissue grafting in order to create an environment more conducive to the placement of dental implants.
Our caring, compassionate team will always take the time to listen to your concerns regarding your oral health and any proposed procedure, answering your questions and gathering information in order to develop a treatment plan that is customized to fit your individual case.
The Dental Implant Process
If it is determined that you are a good candidate for dental implants, we’ll begin by taking x-rays and impressions of your dentition to ensure a seamless fit for your new restorations. Then, while the area is completely numb, a small post made of titanium will be placed within the jaw bone where your missing tooth once stood. Over the course of a few months (up to six), this implant will naturally fuse with the bone in your jaw. This process is called osseointegration and it ensures a sturdy foundation for your new restoration.
Following a brief period of healing, the new crown or implant-supported dentures will be securely affixed to the implanted post, completing the process. Your new tooth or teeth will look, feel, and function like natural teeth, enabling you to reclaim your brilliant smile and complete bite.
